The Engine Room Pitch Workshop Inverness

THE ENGINE ROOM PITCH WORKSHOP INVERNESS
Following sold out events in Nottingham and Birmingham, Sheffield Doc/Fest, in partnership with Wide
Eye Pictures, Highland and Islands Enterprise and MEDIA Antenna Scotland, invites you to The Engine
Room Pitch, taking place in Inverness on July 28th and 29th
THE ENGINE ROOM PITCH is a unique 2 day project development and pitching workshop for
documentary filmmakers and factual cross-platform creatives seeking UK and international
commissions, co-production and market intelligence. It is also an exceptional networking opportunity.
Created by leading international pitch trainer Christina Burnett of Wide Eye Pictures, THE ENGINE
ROOM pitch formats have been successful in Ireland, Brazil and Abu Dhabi as well as the UK.
“THE ENGINE ROOM PITCH is a must-do for every filmmaker looking to pitch into the
marketplace. Practical and inspiring, it makes you think about, and present, your film in
the best possible way”. Sandra Whipham, London Fields Films, former Commissioning Editor
True Stories, Channel 4
Intense, friendly and focused, the workshop develops real projects which are then presented to
commissioners for feedback. Charlie Philips, Marketplace Producer at Doc/Fest will give a
comprehensive introduction to Sheffield Doc/Fest, the MeetMarket and worldwide opportunities at
other festivals and markets. Commissioners from BBC, Channel 4, Britdoc and CBA-DFID Broadcast
Media Scheme have taken part in previous workshops.
Delegates range from multi-BAFTA winners to first-timers and the structure enables delegates at any
stage of their career to understand what makes a project succeed and to maximise their own
opportunities in future.
“I found the workshop absolutely invaluable... I rewrote my pitch several times and had
lots of practice delivering it until I almost enjoyed the pitching process. On the second
day we had the opportunity to pitch to two commissioners from major broadcasters.
This pitch led directly to a commission for a feature doc for More 4's True Stories
strand.” - Victoria Steventon, Producer/ Director
You can attend either as a pitcher with project, or as an observer. This workshop is open to
filmmakers and cross-platform creatives from Scotland only, but applicants can come from anywhere
within Scotland.
To express interest, email Doc/Fest Marketplace Assistant Floury Crum via
floury@sidf.co.uk with a one page proposal for a documentary or a doc/factual cross
platform project (and brief information about yourself). This workshop costs £20 for those
within the Highlands and Islands, and £35 for those from the rest of Scotland.
“THE ENGINE ROOM PITCH is an invaluable addition to the training available for
UK indies to develop the pitching skills necessary to make it in the international
market…. I look forward to my next visit.” - Greg Sanderson, Executive Producer, BBC
Storyville
